HOLY COW GUYS!! HOW IN THE WORLD HAS IT BEEN A YEAR!!? So much has happened in the last year – I started Capital Blonde, graduated college #godevils, got a boyfriend (hi Niko), traveled to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, got a job.. it’s crazy to even think about it all.

Capital Blonde has become my baby and I have learned so much more starting and managing it than sitting in any classroom. I never realized how much I would get out of doing this or what I was even really getting into. I’m not here to talk you into starting a blog by any means, but I just wanted to share the back end of blogging with you all because it’s more than just taking cute photos.

Dozens of you guys have contacted me in the last year about wanting to start a blog… My advice? If you’re on the fence about it.. JUST DO IT. Okay, now I sound like a Nike slogan haha.

First off, I’ll start with the most important lesson of them all: Not caring what anybody else thinks. This is something that’s really hard to learn when putting yourself out there but in reality.. when you care so much what other people think it’s only holding YOU back. It’s THEIR thoughts, and THEIR opinions, so let it stay in THEIR head only. Right?

You will get nowhere if you do not do something you’re passionate about because of what ____ may think. And always have those “what-if’s” in the back of your mind. So with anything you do: Confidence is key.

“You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.”

* So here’s to all the people putting themselves out there and doing what they’re passionate about.. fashion, travel, food, photography, sports, designing, underwater basket weaving. WHATEVER.

Second, I taught myself digital design and marketing. I spent all of summer 2016 interning and researching for CB. I read and watched countless articles and videos to teach myself how to. I learned WordPress and it’s plugins like the back of my hand, designed my site top to bottom, logos, set up email campaigns, SEO, analytics, professional editing softwares, content creation, ads, e-Commerce, social, and familiarized myself with the blogging world in general.

I have learned programs and softwares I would have never familiarized myself with otherwise.

Third, ask yourself: Is it fun for me? Why do I want this? Do I enjoy doing it? If you answer yes and positively to these questions.. Then why not?!

Whatever you do: DON’T compare yourself to other bloggers or social media people… that will get you nowhere. We have all done this and I have learned the hard way. But instead, do it because it’s fun for you and you truly enjoy sharing. Whether it’s a hobby or whatever.

I was a journalism major in college and I love all things writing, photography, design, content creation, editing, videos, social media, etc… and a blog is all those things tied into one platform so it just made sense for me!

Fourth, blogging CAN be a business! I collab and negotiate with companies all the time. It’s turned me into a little business women along the way! hehe. It’s also a great resume builder and portfolio to show to potential employers.

Fifth, the best part about blogging is that there is no right or wrong. You can talk about anything and be as creative as you want. No one can tell you no. Don’t get caught up on the numbers and the clicks. If your blog is a fun creative outlet for you.. it’s success enough.

I CANNOT THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH FOR FOLLOWING ALONG ON MY JOURNEY SO FAR!!! ❤️❤️ I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU!

I use my blog to share tips and talk about things I love -food,travel,fashion. I aim to inspire others through my personal stories, traveling, and tips, and to be a positive role model for girls and young women everywhere. Check out my very first blog post ever here.

This is just the beginning -I can’t wait for more to come! Your support means the world to me!! Now, I’m going to go have some cake in honor of Capital Blonde’s one year birthday!! (any excuse for cake amiright?!)
