Destination: Clearwater, FL / Memorial Day Weekend 2017
Hi friends! I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day and enjoyed their long weekend! People kept asking me why I was in Florida randomly… Well I went to Clearwater with Niko and Katerina for the annual UGA event (basically a big Greek party on the beach all weekend long) #partyoftheyear. They host it for Greek people our age from all over as a sort of reunion and to meet new Greeks. This was my first year going and it was a blast! Each night we had a different event/venue to attend, ending the weekend with the ‘All White Party’. During the days we did some beach exploring and found some yummy food spots. So I wanted to put together a ‘Clearwater Travel Guide’ and share everything we did that I would recommend:
T H I N G S T O D O :
BEACH BEACH BEACH- I mean can you ever get sick of the beach?! Niko and I checked out 3 different beaches while we were there: Shepard’s Beach, Clearwater Beach and North Beach (our favorite one).
Cruise Around in Buggy’s– Okay, I don’t actually know what they are called but I call it a buggy haha. You can see from our photo above! They are like little colorful cars that people rent all over Clearwater. Niko and I rented one and cruised over to North Beach, that we found by accident btw. We parked in the cutest little beach neighborhood and went swimming in the Gulf of Mexico. North Beach is a much warmer and emptier beach with clearer waters. SO FUN.. Literally the highlight of the trip! Highly recommend.
Mini Golf– right across the street from Shepard’s Beach Resort. After the 18th hole there’s a little swing at the top with a pretty view! And for the record… I creamed Niko in putt putt 😉
W H A T T O E A T :
Pan Filo’s Co. Bar & Grill- SUCH YUMMY TACOS! Niko and I went two days in a row because we liked it so much. *The Goat and Vegetal tacos are THE BEST.
Post Corner– pretty good Greek food but also have a lot variety on the menu. We all ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Platters.
Ice&Cream Creamery– Locally made Ice Cream and milkshakes starting at $3. They have like a million flavors… actually… 36 but same same. Niko and I just had milkshakes for dinner one night (don’t judge us 😜)
Gondolier Pizza– Italian restaurant & pizza. We ordered a full veggie pizza and the spinach & feta calzone 👌🏼.
Coneheads Icecream- Ice cream cones right by Clearwater main beach.
T R A N S P O R T A T I O N :
Clearwater does have an airport, St. Pete – Clearwater, but it’s not a huge port so more than likely most flights will be more expensive. We flew into Tampa International Airport and from there took an Uber to our hotel. You can also take a super shuttle from Tampa to Clearwater.
Once we got to our hotel, everywhere we wanted to go was walkable (restaurants, bars, beaches, etc.) We did rent the buggy the one day to get to North Beach which was about a 10 minute drive that had cute shops/restaurants on the way.
W H E R E T O S T A Y :
We all stayed at Shepard’s Beach Resort. I enjoyed it and thought it was really nice! Rooms are nice and it has a fun pool and bar area right on the beach. It’s more of a party spot during the day with live music, which is super fun.
N I G H T L I F E :
The Reef Lounge- walking distance from our resort. We went there 2 of the 4 nights. Fun indoor/outdoor bar.
Sharky’s Beach Bar– fun day and/or night spot overlooking Clearwater beach for drinks and corn hole!
Tiki Beach Bar- Grab a cocktail and a bite to eat with live music on stage overlooking the white sand beach!
Wave Nightclub- this club is connected to Shepard’s Beach Resort. We had our first nights event here! Features local and nationally known DJ’s.
I had never been to Clearwater before and I really really loved it 😍. It was such an amazing weekend.. and I met so many new people so YAY MORE GREEK FRIENDS! Also, the craziest thing happened. My best friend, Meghan, from study abroad texted me because she saw I was in Florida and she was randomly coming to CLEARWATER that weekend too.. WHAT A COINCIDENCE! So, of course, we met up with each other. WE STILL CAN’T GET OVER HOW THAT WORKED OUT!! We both had no idea but it was awesome to be able to run into her because we live on opposite ends of the country. PLUS, we’re both dating Greek guys now so we all got to meet! Anyway, ready to be back on the beach with my favorite people.. but for now adiossss! ✌🏼
As always, thanks for reading ❤️
