Destination: Montreux + Vevey Switzerland on Lake Geneva

Wowza!! I have to say, Switzerland is hands down one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Everywhere I looked I felt like I was looking at a painting, it almost felt fake! Montreux is the perfect place for a low key, relaxing, getaway vacation. I literally spent most of my time at the spa 😂 We stayed right on the water on Lake Geneva in Moutreux and explored a lot of Vevey too, which is just a small town over. Fun Fact: Milk chocolate was invented in Vevey!!!

Even though Switzerland is one of the most beautiful places in the world, it is also one of the most expensive. They don’t use the Euro currency, they use the Franc (CHF). Make sure you find a good exchange rate and that you get the best bang for your buck. That means google the current exchange rate because it’s always fluctuating and compare prices + service fee. Once you have your Francs, you’re ready for Montreax! Here’s what I recommend:

THINGS TO DO:

-Château de Chillon Castle – (pictured above) an island castle on Lake Geneva. One of the most visited castles in Europe. Fun fact: It’s known to be the inspiration from The Little Mermaid movie.

-Casino Barrière Montreux – the song “Smoke on the Water” was written about this casino when it burnt down in the 70s and then rebuilt.

-Hiking – you’re at the Swiss Alps for goodness sake.. hiking is a must! And views are even more spectacular higher up 😍 We did a hike in Vevey and there was even a cart that took you up the mountain like a chair lift if you’re not feeling the hike so much 😂 haha

The Fork – this giant fork in the water has become a historical emblem for the town of Vevey.

Montreax Jazz Festival – it’s only once a year, every July. I wasn’t able to be there for it but it’s the 2nd biggest jazz festival in the world after Canada!

-If it’s winter definitely consider skiing/snowboarding! You may have to go a little outside Montreax/Vevey for snow sports.

TRANSPORTATION:

-I found the cheapest plane tickets from Italy to Switzerland through Swiss Air. There are also other airlines/trains/buses that you can get there as well.

-There is one train that runs through all the little towns right on the coast. You can take that to get to/from Montreax to Vevey etc. Explore all the little towns on the coast!

WHERE TO STAY:

-Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic – is RIGHT on the water. We loved this hotel! We had a room + balcony view of Lake Geneva and it was so gorgeous. Ps. Make sure you ask the lobby for chocolates.. it’s the best Swiss chocolate ever! 😏

I hope you guys get the chance to visit Montreux & Vevey Switzerland! The pictures really don’t do it justice. And don’t forget to eat all the Swiss cheese and Swiss chocolate you can!!! And bring me back some 😉 xo
